CanSkate is a learn-to-skate program developed by Skate Canada, aimed at teaching fundamental skating skills to participants of all ages. The program is designed to be progressive, providing a structured and fun environment for skaters to build confidence and proficiency on the ice. Key features of the CanSkate program include: 1. **Balance and Control:** Emphasis on developing a strong foundation in balance and control on skates. 2. **Fun and Games:** Incorporation of games and activities to make the learning process enjoyable and engaging. 3. **Badge Levels:** Achievement-based system with various badge levels that signify the skater's progress and accomplishment of specific skills. 4. **Skating Elements:** Introduction to basic skating elements such as forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, and jumping. 5. **Qualified Coaches:** Instruction provided by Skate Canada certified coaches who follow a standardized curriculum. CanSkate is suitable for beginners as well as those with some skating experience. It serves as a stepping stone for skaters who may later choose to specialize in figure skating, hockey, or other ice-related activities.

Equipment needed: hockey or figure skates with good support (avoid molded skates) and approved hockey helmet.  Winter gloves (not mittens) or hockey gloves are also required. Skates are available for rent for a small fee, please contact coach Robyn at [email protected] to arrange a time to try on skates if needed.   All rental skates must be cared for by wearing skate guards when not on the ice and they are only to be sharpened at The Sharpening Den in Moose Jaw.
